Microscope Videos...

Because of technical difficulties today in class I am posting the three short videos that we were going to watch. I will be switching out my speakers for a different pair so that hopefully we will not have this problem again.

Here is a short history of the microscope and how far we are advanced since the first working one:
We've discussed two different types of microscopes in class: the compound light and electron. This first video will take the compound light microscope and detail how it works:
This last video is just under two minutes and shows how an electron microscope works for a better understanding of the diffrences between the two. Compound light microscope magnifies up to 400x while an electron microscope can magnify up to 20,000:

Class Competitions...

Just a reminder of the class competitions going on in the 9th and 10th grade class. First...

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION-
Each nine weeks I am giving $50 school bucks to the student who brings in the most box tops. They can still be turned in to Mrs. Allison just be sure to let me know how many you turned in. Right now Arianna is in the lead with nine!

TOILET PAPER/PAPER TOWEL ROLLS-
Until October we are collecting toilet paper and paper towel rolls for our fall project. We'll be using these to construct a "log" cabin to be put on display for our Thanksgiving meal. Teachers and elementary students have been bringing some in but our class is lagging behind! As of right now Daniela is in the lead with three.  The winner will receive a Homework Pass Coupon and a +5 Bonus Points added to your lowest test score of the nine weeks! I'd say that's a pretty sweet deal!!

So let's get rolling and get those box tops and toilet paper/paper towel rolls brought in!

Something Else I Did...

My family and I took a road trip a couple of weeks ago to visit family near Houston, Texas. While there we had the opportunity to go to a major league baseball game: Astros vs. Tampa Bay Rays. Our seats were right near first base...meaning a few foul balls came our direction. Sadly we didn't catch a one! But the game was awesome and this panoramic turned out quite nice. Now I need to find a place that sells panoramic picture frames because boy, do I have plenty of these types of photos!! Hope your summer is winding down quite nicely! I'm looking forward to seeing you all in class!
