Can You Find...
Cooler, "fall-ish" weather is moving in this weekend, and I don't know about you, but I'm ready to wear some fall clothes! So in honor of fall, even though we've really already been celebrating here, find the above photo hidden somewhere on this blog for +5 Bonus points on the next quiz. Ready? Set? Go!!
Biology Cell Cake...
On Friday, September 22nd, the 9th and 10th Biology class did a little hands on learning. This last chapter has centered around the basics of Cytology and I thought creating our own animal cell would be a great way to learn all of the different parts of the cell. Each student chose a certain type of candy to bring to decorate a cake in the shape of a cell. This project really did seem to be a hit! These girls went right to work...
Only a class full of girls would think to do an ombre colored cell but the affects were stunning! I do believe they were quite proud of their work!
And of course, the finished product...
Who would have thought some cake, little bit of frosting, and an assortment of candy could make learning so enjoyable! We each enjoyed a piece during history class. Now I'm expecting 100% on the next test! Way to go, Girls!

Asian Country Project...
There were several projects turned in this week that I just need to share. My student's really impressed this teacher with their creativity. Let me start with the Asian Country Project...
I have to say that the results of the 11th and 12th Asian travel brochure project were way better than I ever expected. In previous years when we've done this project I simply expect a hand drawn and hand written brochure. But this year my students went above!Check out the outside of Ben's brochure on Taiwan...
Then there's the inside...
Seth designed his around the country of India. Here's the outside...
Then the inside...
I'm not really sure how any of my Geography classes I teach over the next few years will every match this. Great job, Guys!

Extra Credit Biology Video...
We have studied the individual parts of the cell in our 9th and 10th grade Biology class before discovering the need for the cell to maintain homeostasis. The cell accomplishes this by active and/or passive transport. Below is the video we were watching when the bell rang depicting the difference between these two types of transports...
Now for some extra credit: to understand better about the cell membrane watch these two videos below then leave me a comment or email that you watched it for +5 Bonus Points on the next test. The first introduces the cell membrane and what it is composed of...
The second deals with how the cell membrane transports substances...
If you have any questions from something you don't understand please leave me a comment or e-mail and I will answer them accordingly. Remember: you will need to use your critical thinking skills as you watch to apply information we have studied in previous chapters.

Animated Parts of the Cell...
There are so many individual parts of the cell beginning with the non-organelles and then the organelles. Below is the video we watched in Biology class that animates each part of the cell. As you label your cell worksheets jot down a brief function of each part to help you as you study for both quiz and test...
History and Geography of China...
In 11th and 12th World Geography we have been studying the different countries of Asia. Our lesson on Friday, September 15th, centered around The country of China. We didn't just look at it's geography but also some history of it's dynasties. Here are some videos that we watched to help better understand China's geography...
This next short video shows an animation of the dynasties throughout China's history. Since China is the oldest civilizations it's important to understand a little bit about it's past...

US History Test Study Guide...
On Monday, September 18th, there will be a US History Test for 9th and 10th over chapter three. Thanks to Cynthia click HERE to get pictures of her study guide over the forty-two questions, including two essays. Please let me know if you have any questions BEFORE you take your test in class on Monday.
Cytology in Biology...
In Biology class we have started chapter 3 on Cytology: the study of the cell. Even though many of my students are gone to the volleyball tournament, I still taught over 3.1-3.2 on how the study of cells relates to the development of the microscope. We also saw that how cells make up living organisms making them have the same attributes of life of a living organism...only in a little different form than what we think of. Be VERY familiar with the Chart 3-1 on p. 58 where a description of how the cell performs the attributes of life are described. Again, be VERY, VERY familiar with this chart.
Also there are two different types of organisms according to the number of cells they have: unicellular and multiicellular. Unicellular organisms only have one cell as seen in bacteria, protozoans, and algae. Multicellular organisms are made up of two or more cells. Humans, animals, and plants are all examples of multicellular organisms.
With multicellular organisms cells are grouped together according to their functions...similar to people with the same language and culture tend to live in the same land area. When we have similar cells performing a similar function we have tissues. Tissues that perform similar functions group together to form organs. Organs group together to form Organ Systems. These are all key terms discussed in class and should be remembered for a quiz or test.
Here is also a video of an overview of the cell. Watch now and then feel free to come back and watch again and again as we go over each individual part of the cell: how they function, what they look like,, and where they are located at in the cell. Mr. Anderson does a fantastic job putting this chapter in perspective for us.

The Thirteen Colonies Videos...
In chapter 2 of our US History book we have been studying about the thirteen colonies. We had the chance to watch a video about the Southern colonies but did not have enough time to watch these other two videos. So I am offering them as extra credit for your test on Friday, September 8th. Simply watch the videos below then leave me a comment at the end of the post with your name that you watched them and I will add five extra points on your test.
First, let's start with the four New England Colonies...
...and then let's finish with the Middle Colonies...
Don't forget to leave me your name in the comments below!

Favorite Foods Celebration...
I don't know about you but I am super excited about celebrating our favorite foods tomorrow, September 8th, during lunch time. I've already made my Rotel Cheese Dip and am interested in seeing what some of your favorites are. Don't forget to bring something to share with others...and remember, NO NUTS! Thank you!
Tuesday, September 5, 2017
Favorite Food Day...
This month we are celebrating our favorite foods! That means on Friday, September 8th, please bring your favorite food to share with everyone. At lunch time we will put everything together buffet style and take a bite of other student's favorite foods. Because of a nut allergy please bring something that does not contain any form of nut. We look forward to seeing everyone's favorite food!
New US History Project...
Our new project for US History involves creating a postage stamp for one of the thirteen colonies chosen last Friday. I did not put on the requirements paper what date information to work on the project was due in class but I would be remiss in a few reminders regarding this project. You are not allowed to work on any other class, even one of the other classes I teach you. You must work on work ONLY for US History. Please bring information to class tomorrow, Wednesday, September 6th, so that once I am done with the lesson you may work on your project. These little projects I assigned are actually to be completed in class and not where you need to take them home. So again, no working on any other class (even Biology) in my class, only US History. Bring materials in to work on your new project.
